From the outside, you would think Portland’s CACADA Thermal Springs + Hotel is a stylishly sleek apartment with a cool coffee shop inside. What you don’t see is that underneath what is actually not a luxury apartment but a hotel is an underground oasis of thermal springs!
CASCADA Thermal Springs + Hotel is an immersive wellness sanctuary + hotel. You can the hotel was built with intentional rest in mind. From my time here, I found it was the perfect place to cancel out the chaos and noise of the day.
Here’s What To Know About CASCADA Thermal Springs + Hotel
CASCADA is the newest luxury boutique hotel in Portland, Oregon. Nestled in the eclectic Alberta Arts District, the urban oasis of CASCADA opened in winter 2024/2025. Think of it as this: an accommodation that combines sustainability and luxury accommodations. When I first walked in, I was immediately attracted to aesthetic. There’s a coffee shop onsite and a creative workspace that elevates the cafe experience.

There’s not a key for the door, but a bracelet (thankfully) so no more losing your hotel key. My room was one of the most enjoyable parts of my stay! Aesthetically, it was beautiful with the artwork, spiral stair case to the loft, and my bathroom that felt like the earthy-retreats in Bali.
From a practicality standpoint, rooms are equipped with a kitchen that had a stove, dishes, and a refrigerator. Inside the fridge had your typical mini-bar items (drinks, water, and snacks). However, the water costs $8 per bottle but it’s sustainable and you can keep it once you checkout.

CASCADA: Portland’s First Underground Thermal Springs
The centerpiece of this hotel are the thermal springs. In fact, CASCADA is Portland’s first underground hot springs and spa complete with hydrothermal circuit, salt and infrared halotherapy. The experience is a two-fold. The first place you enter is The Conservatory: the 82-degree year round social space featuring day beds, a large warm vitality pool and a selection of rare plants from around the world.

From there, you walk downstairs to the The Sanctuary: the underground silent space with three distinct thermal circuits including 3 vitality pools (mineral, ambient, hot), a cold plunge, sauna, ice fountain and steam room.
The best way to prepare for the The Sanctuary (in my opinion) is by bringing some sort of reading tablet. Phones have to stay in the locker room and staff is serious about the no talking rule. Staff will give you a pair of flip flops, but your best bet is bringing your own. I kept losing my pair because they all look the same.
Thermal springs are only only for adults (21+) and you don’t need to stay in the hotel to experience the oasis. Day passes are available. Three hours is the ideal time to remain inside the thermal springs.
